First Day of School!

This week was the beginning of school for my kids and for my son Alex it was 1st grade. He was so nervous, even though he’d been to preschool, been to kindergarten and gone to various camps. I noticed that this first day for him brought up all the usual nerves of “firsts”.

So what did I do? I started to talk to him about all the great things that are waiting for him once he gets past his nervousness. All the friends he’ll meet, exploring the new playgrounds, all the new ideas to learn.

That got me thinking, my pep talk to Alex was great! Unfortunately, I don’t often take my own advice. I have let nerves prevent me from showing up, trying new things, experimenting, and putting myself out there more.

All of us need to take the time to look past our initial feelings of hesitation, nervousness, anxiety and imagine what can be on the other side. Is that vision of the future something we truly want? Is growth worth the price of discomfort? Only you can answer that for yourself.

Tell me this, what is the one thing that you want to do more than anything but are too nervous to start?

How is your first day of school going to turn out?
